I have a friend with an older television that does not have a USB port to power many of the amplified OTA antennas that are on the market these days. This unpowered digital HDTV antenna worked nicely to solve that problem.For myself, I have an amplified digital antenna that gets the most over the air channels in my southern California area. It is powered by a USB port on the television. To test this unpowered antenna, I simply unscrewed the coax cable from the TV that came from my amplified antenna, and then screwed in the new unpowered antenna. I placed the antenna horizontally under the TV shelf, because it fit perfectly there. I jumped to channel 4.1 NBC, and it worked. Then I went up and down the channels, then jumped to 40.x channels and the 50.x channels and a majority of them worked. More than 90% of the channels came in without even adjusting the antenna. I did notice that channel 2.1 CBS and channel 9.1 KCAL did not come in, but they might have, if I moved the antenna closer to the window to try to find an optimal spot for reception. I was surprised at how many channels just "worked” and came in with just placing the antenna where it was easy and convenient for me.The antenna comes with a manual, and accessories to attach it to a wall. It is light, and could go most anywhere.I give it 4 stars instead of 5 stars, because it gets less channels than a powered antenna, and because it is light, it did not seem as steady when positioned vertically. The positives: It is less than $20 cost. Some older TVs don’t have USB ports, or that port may be in use for another device, and this antenna works well without amplification. It is a good value purchase.
