Review on 🐠 Aquarium Light IP68: Submersible LED Fish Tank Lights with Color Changing, Memory & Adjustable Brightness, Ideal for Underwater Decor - 23 by Domonique Rieder

Revainrating 2 out of 5

A great alternative to replacing your broken 14 inch fluorescent aquarium hood.

UPDATE MAY 5, 2019: After about a year of ownership I have decided to downgrade my rating from four to two stars. What I wrote below is still valid, but there were a few issues that caused this flashlight to be on the 'do not buy' list. First, the lantern is poorly constructed. The first one I bought lasted about six months before having any problems; In particular, almost all of the blue LEDs stopped working, giving the aquarium a sickly yellow appearance. When this happened, one more thing became clear to me: like most cheap Chinese devices, there is no way to contact the manufacturer for support. The seller of this item is "S SMIFUL". " but there is no indication if it is the manufacturer or just the seller and numerous attempts to contact "S SMIFUL" went unanswered. I ended up having to deal with Revain, who told me to request a refund and bought a new one which I did. This second one lasted about four months before it shut down completely. It wasn't long before I found that the power connector had come loose.Instead of me again To deal with Revain I decided to open it Installed the small plastic box that contained the power connector I found that the power connector was held in place by three solder joints and a piece of old double sided plastic tape Two of those solder joints had come loose, one of them took the pads with me, luckily I was able to re-solder the connections and add the jumper wire to fix the pad and then reinforced the whole thing with ei A good bead of hot glue to hold it in place. The forged connector is much stronger than before and works great. However, I don't expect the average consumer to do this (or know how). I *really* recommend anyone with this indicator to unplug the power cord, remove the bottom of the little plastic box holding the power jack, and apply enough hot glue to and around the power jack to hold it in place. Because of these shortcomings, I lowered my rating from four to two stars. Below is a first overview. The power transformer in my daughter's 10 gallon aquarium light gave off a genie, so instead of fixing it I decided to replace all the work with this fixture. . After removing the old lightbulb, wiring, starter and transformer, and doing a few trial assemblies, I made two modifications to the old hood: enlarged the hole in the back where the power cord went in, and drilled a new hole in the front around the Install IR receiver for remote control. A little hot glue to attach the IR receiver, some strong double-sided foam tape to hold the light in place, and a few zip ties later and you'll never know your tank has been redesigned... except that Remote control and bright lights in the tank. With the remote control you can use sixteen different colors. My daughter chose white for the day, yellow for the evening, and dark purple for the night (then turning them off when she slept). Your fish seem to appreciate it so I have no complaints. The remote also has several other functions including power on/off, brightness control, "special effects" (light rotation/strobe) and speed control for these special effects. The remote control itself is made of thin plastic; It's best to keep the remote where you can't sit or step on it as I suspect an accident and it's all over. Considering that the manufacturer sells the remote control as a separate part, this confirms this opinion. The power supply is standard quality for Chinese electronics, but functionally nothing special. The manufacturer claims that the lantern can be submerged in water, and in fact it has suction cups to keep it in that shape on the aquarium wall. I chose not to test this feature, mainly because I didn't trust it too much, and also because I always intended to use it to recycle an old aquarium hood. I used earlier. It's not at all inappropriate for my use, but it was a little disappointing. I was hoping for something brighter. I am also not very happy with the way this item was delivered to me. I ordered it separately without anything else and it came in a plain padded envelope. Opening the envelope revealed that the lamp was cracked and the remote control was optically and electronically damaged. Revain accepted the return and the second arrived undamaged despite being packaged the same way. If you are considering ordering this I would advise you to buy it with other items, preferably soft items. I really wish it had a sleep timer. I don't give stars or points for not having a timer; just said it would be nice and just add a sleep timer.
