Review on Oxel Insect & Butterfly Habitat by Kevin Gunnmann

Revainrating 4 out of 5

It is very large and very beautiful, with a few flaws.

I use my living space to keep two small praying mantises and their flightless fruit fly food. The habitat is in fact quite large and the fine meshes prevent fruit flies from escaping. There's a clear plastic viewing window on one side, but it's not 100% transparent like glass, so everything you see will be distorted and if it's small, you won't be able to see sharp detail. Sometimes I just use one of the websites to browse, because it makes it easier for me to find my praying mantis. I think some people will use the clear plastic side as the bottom and you can do that too if you like or if your creature is dirty in the "field" for easier cleaning. Praying mantises and fruit flies are not such a problem. The zipper is easy to use and can be opened to different sizes to prevent the contents from leaking. For the price, a Habitat really can't be beat, but a small child will certainly need help managing and operating the Habitat, and most importantly a zipped hole to avoid damaging or breaking it as it seems a bit fragile. Viewing through clear plastic can be frustrating due to distortion. I've attached a photo so you can probably tell its size compared to the other items in the picture on my desk.

Pros
  • practical thing
Cons
  • I have no negative feelings about it, it's ok
