Review on Ultimate Hunting Companion: Garmin Alpha 200I And TT 15X Combo GPS Dog Tracking System With InReach Technology And Portable Charger - Track Up To 20 Dogs! by Derrick Duck

Poor maps, lots of extra fees

This device uses 'active' topo, which does not show many trails and roads that Alpha 100, Astro 220, & 320 topo 100k show. The work around suggested by Garmin is $99 go hunt chip that shows more detail. I hunt 5 states using 2 units. This would cost just under a grand to get maps my Alpha 100 and Onx already show me. Second issue: it introduces letters into the dog track/train codes. This keeps you from going from 200i to Alpha 100 using the tracking codes.Third issue: Garmin claims that you can NOT do an SOS if you don't pay the $13-33/month subscription fee. I don't like being bled for monthly subscription fees.It is more user friendly. It does allow you to deal with dog interference better. It is an improvement. Hopefully they come up with some solutions to the issues.

Pros
  • Very quick updates and very accurate. Has all the bells and whistles and more.
Cons
  • Technical Issues: Some users have reported technical issues with the system, such as poor reception or inaccurate location tracking, which can be frustrating and pose a risk when hunting
