Review on DIGITEN DTC101 Digital Temperature Controller - Greenhouse Thermostat Plug for Heater, Heat Mat, Aquarium, Reptile Incubation, Homebrewing - Heating & Cooling Mode by Dusty Tofte

Well THAT was a disappointment. During quarantine, I used a spare fridge overflow chest with a different brand of external thermostat control; but it will only go down to 40.5°F, and I wanted it to be around 35°F. So I bought this one, which theoretically had a much longer range. Well it didn't work. The included instructions said you would simply set the temperature range and switch to cooling mode. Despite doing this repeatedly for over an hour, it never happened. Just a faulty product for this use. Searching YouTube for other users' videos, I found the disturbing part of a guy who appeared to be documenting safety issues, including what he wanted to demonstrate was that there was a ground to one of the hot wires. . That, combined with some 1-star reviews here mentioning melted extensions and shocks, seems pretty trustworthy, although you decide. You can search on yt with that model number and see what you find. But I refrained from returning it until communication with the seller I contacted was complete. Unfortunately I just got a response and the seller, rather than offering clear alternative instructions or an immediate replacement with a working unit, asked me to send him a reading or photos of it not working, which makes no sense if they what read what I just said. That is, if it does not go into cooling mode but always stays in heating mode, how should I photograph it? I'm just wasting more time. So this product got a bad rating from a fairly high rated reviewer and I hope it helps other buyers. I will also note that when I was at VINE I had a wireless temperature controller. of the same brand and it worked for a while and then failed without warning, spoiling the food in the freezer. It looks like the actual device manufacturer was different, so I took a chance, but for now I'm avoiding the DIGITEN brand entirely.
