When trying to get VNC to work on an Ubuntu desktop install without a keyboard/monitor attached, it has become much easier to order this device, than continue to struggle with alternative vnc setups and configurations. And boy did I try. At the same time: Settings->Sharing->Turn on screen sharing, Settings->Users->Automatic login, done. So thanks for creating this seemingly absurd device, but now I understand why it's needed.
