Review on πŸ”§ Ingersoll Rand 301B Angle Grinder: Unleash Precision and Power for Your Grinding Needs by Steve Campbell

Revainrating 5 out of 5

3 years in business and still working. Detailed long-term review.

Summary: I bought two of these in February 2018 for use in my shop. They are still reliable and work great. Long version: Cheap RF straight grinders are fine for the Blue Moon guy who uses them at home, but not at all for regular use. I wanted something better than RF junk but didn't want to spend hundreds on a true "industrial" model. They perfectly meet all requirements. Both devices are mainly used with spacer rollers in general steel construction. One has a 3 inch roller and is primarily for coarse sanding. The other has a 2 inch roll with some sanding but is used primarily for deburring and buffing with Scotchbrite pads. For the way we use them, performance is never an issue, but speed modulation is very important. They're great for that. Interestingly, the more expensive IR models I've tested have some reviews complaining about the lack of speed control, but I had no complaints about this model. The front exhaust was a plus for our use. But I don't have automatic oilers on our lines. We just manually add a few drops from time to time (probably a lot less often than we should). They are not used all day every day like a production hall, but they are definitely used on a daily basis. To be honest, if you use a tool for several hours every day, you should buy MUCH more expensive industrial quality air tools. As already mentioned, collets tend to stick. It really wasn't a problem for us. We don't change things that often, and when we do, they get out of step after loosening the nut enough. So in this price range I can't imagine a better price-performance ratio. They are good quality but very affordable. Velocity modulation is excellent. They are compact and lightweight. They have a study, solid feel, not loose and sloppy like HF instruments. I will definitely buy them again if we need more.
