Know the risk. The manufacturer gives conflicting dosage information. The packaging says the 2 gram pack is for 300 gallons. The dosing information on their website says to dose 100 milligrams of Chemiclean per 10 gallons, which allows a 2 gram pack to handle 200 gallons. The scoop included in the kit is designed for a dosage of 67 milligrams per 10 gallons. Why is this difference important? Although Boyd (manufacturer) states that this product does not contain erythromycin succinate, it has been confirmed to contain erythromycin cetyl sulfate. The drug is banned in Germany and the Netherlands because the antibiotic erythromycin tends to develop bacterial resistance. In addition, if the dosage is not appropriate for the time and/or duration of exposure, you risk damaging your fish's internal organs. Cetyl sulfate is a surfactant that increases the surface tension of water and causes foaming. The downside is that it helps remove cyanobacteria. Know the risk before use. This product may work for you many times, once, or not at all. I personally have a problem with a manufacturer promoting conflicting and misleading information about their product and if I can't trust the Boyd culture then I can't trust their product and my tank.
