Review on Broan NuTone 634M Roof Black Round by Jim Kriegshauser

Revainrating 4 out of 5

This model has a round flange on the bottom

There is another brand that uses heavier steel and better workmanship but costs twice as much. Also, you have to order it a week in advance. This wasn't an option for me. This model has a rounded flange/collar at the bottom. The model they sell at my local store is the same but without the collar (one size fits all). Potentially, this model saves time, but I think that installing the collar separately (permanently on the roof) and installing the universal model is the best option. Then the roofers don't have to touch your air ducts and the plumbers/fans don't have to touch your roof. Everyone wins. However - Broan packs these things in a box that is barely big enough and the flange buckles during shipping/loading. The ones I got from Revain were in worse condition than my local store, but even there I had to search through a few boxes to find the least damaged ones. It probably doesn't matter much when it's nailed and nailed to the roof, but it's a bit annoying. I also had to recheck the damper valve - fixed the gasket so no glue stuck to the valve and made sure the flapper was straight and not flexing. It took some skill, but I figured it out. If they are just banged on your roof and not thoroughly inspected then I would buy a more expensive brand or keep my fingers crossed =) Also I painted my brown rustoleum to match my brown roof - looks great. If you match in color, simply choose matte or matte paint and choose a darker shade for your clapboards. I tried dyeing mine to dress it up and it looked crappy - I ended up just painting it brown. The same on the firmware of the whistle.
