Review on Fovitec Continuous Lighting Equivalent Softboxes by Tricia Rosinski

In general, this is a great inexpensive option for a sub-pro. With these StudioPRO softboxes we got a lot more (for a lot less money) than what we found at our local camera store. I've owned them for about 4 months now and have used them for about 18 hour long photo shoots. We use them to photograph large items for online sale and for impromptu video broadcasts. I almost knocked one over one day, but I moved the box quickly and didn't look closely where I was going. Of course they are not professional quality and as you can see from the manufacturer's photos they will be a bit heavy. When I'm not using them, I usually leave them out entirely. We were glad to find them at Revain and in a pinch sent them out within a day! I was concerned about getting the bulbs delivered by my local UPS courier, but everything appears to be well protected for transit, albeit tightly packed. Out of the box, don't expect these soft boxes to travel well. There really is no easy removal and installation method. You must remove all 7 bulbs from each bulb to transport them safely. I suppose you could stick with the individual manufacturer's containers for each bulb, but that's just not my style. A (slightly frightening) experience that *raised my concerns about the quality of the bulb. When I first turned on a lamp, I heard a series of rapid electrical hisses and pops that made me unplug the power cord. I smelled like burnt plastic and after a cursory inspection I found a culprit lightbulb. A layer of char formed around the piston's "vent hole" and the rim of the piston turned black. There was an apparent short in the bulb and it happened right after the first power on. I haven't had a problem with any of the other 13 lamps since, but I guarantee you I remembered the experience for the first 4 or 5 lamp sessions. =) Would I buy it again? Of course. Great value for money and meets my needs 😊 Aha! blown away? Not as much.
