9ft PERFECT for use in my bedroom and black was definitely my choice - it really goes well with the lighter colors of the room. As far as extending the cord, it seems pretty good - it's 16 gauge (default) and the cord itself seems thick and strong enough that it won't fray or become damaged with regular use. Likewise, the plug (male) holds well in the socket (despite the thinner brass pins), and the three-socket end holds the plugs in place. Swivel covers are very handy as they keep dust out (and can be safer too if you have a small child around). 16 gauge, like a normal heating cable. Because of the extra connection and length, the resulting impedance (resistance) can still lead to overheating, as mentioned earlier. There's a reason they say to only use 14 gauge wire (next size up) or larger wire for heaters! Will definitely buy more in the future!
