Stainless Steel Manifold from Crisp to Shiny

Buying wet sandpaper from the hardware store is outrageously expensive. When I saw this kit and the asking price I had to buy it. It comes with 15 complete sheets each cut into three pieces for a total of 45 pieces. They start at 120, 120, 150, 180, 200, 250, 280, 350, 400, 600, 800, 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500, 3000, 5000 grit. I started with duct tape to get rid of all the big stubborns rust . I also used degreasing soap. i won't lie It was a lot of trouble. It took a whopping 14 hours to cycle through the color gamut of each of the 15 grains. The first 3 or 4 cereals seemed to take longer and then it got easier. You want the surface to be as close to 100% polished as possible, because each grit prepares it for the next, and if you want the surface to be like new high-gloss chrome, you just can't cut it. 2pm Friday night and then all Saturday. Pay attention to the picture of stainless steel polish in a tube. I'm still planning on polishing it again as the test stain seems to make a slightly shinier difference again. When I started I used a sheet and a half of 120, 150 and 180 and then just one sheet from the others. I cut each sheet into 4 pieces and this made it easier to get in and around the flanges and all the curvature of the whole manifold. In general, I am very satisfied with the results. It wasn't easy, but it's certainly a sense of accomplishment knowing that "I did it!". Check out the before and after photos.
