medium scanner on barcode scanners

We bought this to update our inventory and while it works there are a few things I don't like about it. When the whopping 164-foot transmission range was discussed, I figured I could point it at a barcode from at least 6 feet away, but that wasn't the case. I literally have to scan within an inch of the barcode. This is probably the range of the phone they had in mind. But depending on how you want to use the scanner, you'll need a phone to see or even hear. So what's the point of long range unless you have really long headphones or a really loud speaker where you don't mind if others were or were listening? You have eyes like a terminator. So of course I was misled when I read about the 164 transmission series and I don't like being misled. It doesn't work well in bright sunlight (we have a very bright warehouse with lots of windows) and takes too long to fill up. Easy to set up and use, but not as efficient or fast as I was hoping. I've tried it on two of the fastest wireless networks with new Android phones and I need something that displays information faster so I can finish my work and go home.
