It's been a brutal summer and hotter than I ever wanted to know. People on Twitter were talking about covering windows with foil to keep the heat out, and I flinched. Of course I didn't fall that far for that! Then someone mentioned this as an alternative to taping the *outside* of the windows to prevent the double pane from cracking. It works, but I won't put them on the front windows. I have some dignity left. The benefit I didn't expect was that they block the light completely. I sleep better in the dark. As summer finally softens, I park a few cars for our trip to Chicago's frozen tundra. When folded they are very small and rustling, but they really insulate whether it's hot or cold. One of the nicest purchases I've made.
