It's been a brutal summer and hotter than I ever wanted to know. People on Twitter were talking about covering windows with foil to keep the heat out, and I flinched. Of course I didn't fall that far for that! Then someone mentioned this as an alternative to taping the *outside* of the windows to prevent the double pane from cracking. It works, but I won't put them on the front windows. I have some dignity left. The benefit I didn't expect was that they block the light completely. I sleep better in the dark. As summer finally softens, I park a few cars for our trip to Chicago's frozen tundra. When folded they are very small and rustling, but they really insulate whether it's hot or cold.
