Shakers are useless

Very pretty and heavy, but real shakers have too many big holes and salt and pepper will flow out quickly; not very practical. Filling them is not an easy task. I thought they had a screw cap but the hole is in the base with a plug. To fill it, turn it upside down and the salt will flow out of the holes almost as fast as you pour the salt into the hole. They can only be used to sharpen or plug the holes very well.
