I have been an electronics, engineer and DIY enthusiast for over fifty years. I have used and owned a wide range of soldering equipment from basic irons to professional soldering stations. My personal station at home is the Weller WT-1 base and the WT P90 soldering pin. This Worx portable iron (and "hobby" hot-handle) doesn't do Weller's job, it only does it when you're near an outlet. If you're doing remote repairs, building something at a train station or campground, or anywhere or at a time when you don't have power, this is a great tool. I've found it heats up to a usable temperature faster than any of my older AC powered irons. It's almost as fast as my Weller station. The digital readout on the side of the Worx pen is easy to read and feels accurate. BTW I didn't measure the temperature separately, I just set it to 740Β°F to quickly melt my solder at the heater wire connection as shown in my uploaded photo. It worked great and the recovery time after touching a wire or other heat conductor is on par with other good irons. An alternative to this type of soldering iron can be a general-purpose soldering iron with batteries in the iron. I found they lacked the performance that this set has - they just don't heat up as quickly and stay hot when touching thicker wire. Also, this set is versatile as you can attach a larger battery to the hub and have more capacity than using the batteries in the handle of other portable irons. .
