Dryer balls are new to me and I looked through quite a bit (compared cost to reviews) before settling on these (6 packs of BEASTRON's ZG-Home XL for about $10). While I have not used any other balls of yarn and therefore cannot compare, I can compare them to dryer sheets. The Buzz: 1. Dryer balls really make my clothes softer. I've found this to be especially true for jeans, sheets, towels, and regular t-shirts. 2. I don't like much perfume and my TIDE pods are quite smelly so not having extra fragrance in the dryer is a problem for me Plus (if you like extra fragrance I've heard you add essential oils to the scoops be able). ). 3. My research has also shown that using balls reduces drying time. While I haven't timed it, it certainly is. Hyperbole: 1. It was fun finding hidden eggs in pants and such for a few days, but now it's just "ah". My laundry room is two floors down, so putting the balls back in the basket takes some of the fun out of finding them. 2. In a year the balls save me $ compared to dryer sheets but not TONS of money as some reviews say. A few tips: if my clothes are cotton (sheets, towels, etc.), dryer balls don't generate any noticeable static (and I live in one of the driest places on earth). Acrylic, the static charge will be there anyway. I helped with this by attaching a safety pin to one of the six dryer balls. It doesn't eliminate all static electricity, but it does reduce it significantly. Finally, I really like the dryer balls. They don't leave a clear "film" on the lint collector, as dryer sheets can do that. This film can restrict airflow so dryer balls are really my favorite and I will be buying more in the future. Note: I still clean my lint collector of lint before each load, here I am, I mean just leftover film. Conclusion: I like balls of yarn. They're a happy change from my underwear.
