Although I liked the look of the kombucha, it didn't work at all as intended! I did everything according to the instructions, but after six days there was no visible fermentation, just a moldy coating on top. At first I suspected that the culture might be bad. After removing the foil from the top and waiting a few more days, I noticed that a sticky substance had actually formed on the walls and bottom of the jar and was bubbling on the outside. I cleaned it thoroughly and after a few days the same sticky substance was back. Needless to say, I gave up on the batch and soaked the shard in warm water. The goo kept oozing out! All I can think of is that the ceramic isn't sealed properly and the liquid is leaking out. I wonder if I should have paid the extra money for a stainless steel shard instead!
