Review on Honeywell POPUP2200 Inches Replacement Space Gard Filtration by Jack Ford

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Completely mates with the Space Gard 2200 filter system

New housing, new type of filter. We have a Space Gard 2200 filter system and I've read horror stories about the filter having to be hand pleated. This filter was just unfolded and inserted, so it worked for me. I pulled out an old dirty filter labeled Aprilaire 213 that fit in the frame and wasn't folded around the plastic combs (an improvement over the original), but the Honeywell filter didn't fit! I saw the filter frame and partially pulled it out but was about to abandon the Honeywell installation until my husband saw the filter frame fully extended. Bingo! It's been replaced by Honeywell, which covers more area than the 213. We like it better already. We live in Alabama so it's in an air conditioning intensive zone. I will post an update after the AC season ends to see if we need to replace the filter semi-annually or annually as recommended. Update: Our 2 year old AC unit developed multiple coil leaks in late August. The service man checked the filter at the time and it was still fairly intact. I don't remember exactly when I changed it, maybe in March. I wanted to change it earlier than last week (mid-April 2017) but was distracted by family medical issues. The filter was dirty but I used rotating cooler air intake types every 3 months in our previous house and these filters will be dirty after the AC season. I wouldn't use it for more than a year and wouldn't change before 6 months. Maybe 9 months is the golden mean.

Pros
  • No combs, pleats or end caps
Cons
  • Big and bulky
