Temperature issues, constant crashes

I wanted this card to please me, I really did. I usually buy EVGA graphics cards, but their 2060 cards didn't have my preferred cooler style (fan with exhaust on the back of the case) and they all had smaller or outdated sockets, which I tried to avoid. So this card seemed like a good option. I've had Asus cards before that have been fine and I support their motherboards so I figured it was a pretty safe bet. Unfortunately, the thermal performance of this card was just not acceptable. I installed this card in a new computer I was building with adequate cooling and power supply, but no matter what, with the default settings the card would overheat and freeze the machine for a few seconds. minutes after the start of the game. I experimented with the fan profile in the bundled Asus GPU Tweak II software and was able to keep the card running stably for longer, but even that stuck in the end. The only thing that seemed to fix the problem was setting the fan to always run at 100% (which is a bit like a hair dryer). I don't overclock, I prefer the simplicity and stability of the constant tinkering it takes to squeeze every last gram out of my gear. When I connect a graphics card, I expect it to work with the default settings. This card couldn't do that. I'm not sure if this is a manufacturing defect or bad firmware causing the default fan profile to break. Honestly, I paid too much for this card to want to find out. I sent it back and ordered an EVGA card, hopefully it will perform better despite the less than desirable cooler and connector configuration.

Pros
  • Graphics cards
Cons
  • I vaguely remember
