I've owned the G-16 for 2.5 years now and I can confidently say it's the best P&S I've ever owned. This is my third Canon P&S, the most expensive and worth every penny. I originally bought this for a concert where the recordings were fantastic, but I've recorded it everywhere. I'm no pro, but I've had a bit of practice and a healthy dose of ambition. Some of the photos I took have been approved by several music fan sites. The G-16 is a solidly built camera that reminds me a bit of the old Leica M3 rangefinders. It has a certain weight and wearing it all day will tire you. I took it on an 11 day trip to Asia and found I put it on whenever possible even though I used a neck strap. The weight is due to the fact that this camera is beyond the scope of a Pocket P&S. Filming on cloudless days, fog, night and indoors didn't bother me at all. I stayed in automatic mode the whole time and it adjusted accordingly. I was particularly impressed by the night shots of Pudong in Shanghai. They were perfect for postcards. The battery life was also very good and I didn't have to change it once even though I was shooting like crazy. The video was great too and in HD. I had some great shots from the Tron attraction at Shanghai Disneyland. Shots in Tokyo, day or not, were crisp and colourful. I recently filmed my city (San Francisco) to re-familiarize myself with all of its controls and am still impressed. It shoots almost as well as a DLSR. You get a lot for your money with this camera.
