I say for $11 this sliding bevel is fine. This is a replica of a Starrett model that sells for over $100 which I have not personally seen but noticed when looking for it. It looks like an exact copy right down to the locking mechanism. Pros: Cheap but well made. The locking mechanism is unobtrusive and locks securely. The screw head opposite the thumbscrew is recessed into the housing so that the chamfer on that side lies flat for marking or transferring paper. This is a small handy size for things like dovetails or chisel/planer bevels. Cons: It comes straight from the mill with edges sharp enough to easily cut, so sand down the edges with sandpaper or a rock. In order to gain access to the entire length of the blade, the lock must be completely dismantled. The thumbscrew is still used for some operations. The body is not wide or heavy enough to balance the tool as a guide for drilling operations. It appears to be made of steel rather than stainless steel, so it has limited lifespan in a toolbox or truck. I'm having a hard time holding the corner when locking as the lock doesn't exactly fit the lock. It's either on or off. lot of money. But it's far from a complete marking and measuring tool.
