Icy Box 2280 M.2 Heatsink

Icy Box 2280 M.2 HeatsinkPro: - This product was purchased in addition to a solid piece of flat copper plate of another type with thermal pads. The intent is to test both for the best benefits. Using with Crucial MX500 M.2 500GB 2280 SSD installed on Gigabyte motherboard mid-tower with AMD FX-8350 processor and 6 fans - ambient temp is 75-78 degrees, SSD M average temp 0.2 - 82 degrees max at 89, wanted that M.2 heatsink to keep temperatures down and prevent throttling - more than enough thermal pads included. Mine was high on both outside edges and low in the middle, you can't tell by looks - see other thoughts - I would buy this product again just knowing that it would likely need a lapping down to meet my needs . It's not an expensive high-end part, but still ------ Other Thoughts: Disclaimer: If you decide to sand down (ie sand down) the base, you do so at your own risk. Lapping does not damage the product, but prevents it from being returned for an exchange or refund. – Originally I wanted to remove the varnish from the base so that it is bare metal for good contact on the SSD with maximum heat dissipation. I sanded (or lapped) the base with 2000 grit wet/dry sandpaper for 5 minutes and immediately noticed that it wasn't flat. In total, it takes 20 minutes of intense sanding to remove the color and smooth the base. I believe it will work the way this product is intended. Trust me I would trust this product if the base wasn't flat - now it is flat.

Pros
  • Thermal aluminum fins can provide more heat dissipation and thus prevent the SSD from overheating. The silicone rings are used to easily and securely attach the heat sink to the M.2 SSD.
Cons
  • Something else
