Review on Pix-Star 15 Inch Wi-Fi Cloud Digital Photo Frame with FotoConnect XD: Email, Online Providers, iPhone & Android App, DLNA, Motion Sensor (Black) by Jeffrey Dunn

Fantastic frame! Newer models allow for HUE customizations.

This is a fantastic frame! I've been looking for a frame to buy for a long time and was blown away by the possibilities of the Pix Star frames. But for all the bells and whistles, buy a digital photo frame so you can view your photos as if you were creating them to display in your home. So image quality was my number one priority. Here, some of the reviews drew my attention to the brand, with two issues in particular: * resolution (800 x 600 seemed a bit low to me) and * color temperature (many reviews claimed that most images had a bluish tint compared to other devices such as tablets and phones) As with Issue #1, the 10.4-inch model has a resolution of 800 x 600, which is 96 dpi at this screen size. This corresponds to the resolution of many LCD or LED monitors that you work with every day. For those looking for a 15 inch model, the dpi is actually a bit lower although the pixel count is higher, so I went with the 10 inch model. Sure, if you hold your face a few inches from the frame you'll see pixels, but at a typical viewing distance of 1 meter, the frame's resolution is more than adequate, especially if the original image comes from a good source like a DSLR or rear view modern cell phone camera . Selfies and other images taken with lower-end cameras suffer a little more. However, I'm deducting half a star because I was really hoping for a 1024x800 display or something. I believe this will bring a lot of POP to the images. Regarding issue #2, I found a very helpful post on the Pix Star website stating that as of November 2015 all models are HUE correctable. Hoping for the best, I ordered Amazon to send a newer model, and sure enough I got one with HUE correction options (and a motion sensor). However, the adjustments are very "wide" and I couldn't match the factory calibrated colors for a professional DELL monitor, but I managed to add some much-needed warmth to the skin tones. However, I've deducted another half star because while the images are now pleasing to the eye, they still lack warmth. Maybe in the future it will be possible to implement adjustment of cold, neutral and warm tones through firmware? However, the image quality is very, very good. Adding a bit of saturation and a little hue shift made the images look a lot more natural and brought back the "brightness" that was missed in some of the earlier reviews. . I have to report that this is unfortunately true. While this isn't a problem at all for a full image filling the frame, the light bleed at the edges is very noticeable when the image is in the opposite orientation and end up with black bars, especially when the ambient light is dim or none. . When the ambient light is strong, it is barely visible. This does not detract from the image quality, but sometimes distracts attention. Not enough to dampen my enthusiasm for the product. In terms of features, Pix-Star is definitely the best choice. In a very short time, I was able to insert a USB drive or SD card with my photos, create an email account to start sending photo emails to the device, and my favorite Facebook albums and connect Google Drive folders where I store my photos. mirror shots. You can customize the frame to show them all at once: local storage, memory cards, web albums (the only functionality not available in the "Combo" view is the DLNA server approach, but I think that is an understandable compromise I would prefer (this is also an option). I really think this is a shot worth taking. The Pix-Star website turned out to be very intuitive and the service very interesting. I can't help but applaud the fact that they have answered or helped almost all of the negative reviews on here with a sincere intention of helping and not just "fixing the problem". Kudos to the company for this commitment to customers. I would buy another for my new home and give others to my family if money were no object. Pix-Star is also more expensive compared to similar offerings, but I find all of the features more than make up for the price. Very happy with the purchase. I hope this review helps others who are on the fence like me. This is really a great choice.
