I was looking for a powerful loupe, compact and durable. I was a bit suspicious of this magnifying glass because of the price, but I ordered it right away. Came in good condition, in its own plastic box. The metal is sturdy and while it doesn't feel very expensive, it doesn't feel cheap either. The fit and finish of the metal case is good, with no rough edges or sharp edges. The optics themselves are relatively good for the price. There's quite a bit of distortion, but it still works well, although you need a lot of light to get a bright image. Folds and lifts nice and smoothly with no resistance or roughness, and it's firm enough that the magnifying glass won't open accidentally. I originally bought this magnifying glass as an addition to my emergency kit as it was only intended as a backup way to start a fire. I took it out on a sunny day late afternoon and was still able to get a laser spot that immediately started smoking dry leaf. Haven't gone all the way to starting a fire with this yet, but I'm sure it will do with the right kindling and tinder. I was so pleased with this loupe that I bought another one because at $5 it was the best I've found. As an added bonus we used it with the kids to look at tiny things and they loved it, may have to buy a third one. Update: my son still enjoys playing with it. As an arsonist I ended up buying myself some thin plastic card magnifying glasses, let's see how they work. I'm still glad I bought them as they are very durable and even withstood the onslaught of five years ago.
