Review on AC Infinity Rear Exhaust Receivers Components Computer Components by Tom Duncan

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Well made system I can't use

AC Infinity makes great fans and fan systems and their attention to detail is always impressive, even the thoughtful packaging of their products. That's why it hurts to give the S8 system less than five stars. I used an AC Infinity fan controller and separate fans for my AV receiver, but decided to keep things tidy and efficient by mounting an exhaust air unit on top. With my old controller, I keep temperatures below 78F, which is important to me as I've had a lot of issues with AV receivers and don't want my current unit to get hot. Unfortunately, the S8 only turns on its fans at 88F, and since I plugged it in, it has allowed the receiver to go to 90F (64F ambient). There's no way to set this up and not connect the S8 to an Infinity controller. In my opinion, this is an oversight on AC Infinity's part - integrating their two products should be a natural consideration for such a normally thoughtful company. So -1 star for the high temperatures allowed by this device and -1 for ignoring in-line compatibility. As for the noise level others have mentioned, even at full tilt the S8 isn't what I'd call loud, but it's definitely audible when you're within feet of it. To me, that's far less important than giving up the fan system, which is quiet but doesn't cool properly.
