Get ready to run a diagnostic process right out of the box. After setting up the antenna and turning it on, I found that I was getting almost no signal. I opened the case and found that the wires to the antenna and ground were snapped from the soldering. Luckily, the Revane replacement process was relatively painless. However, I was disappointed with the extra two day delay to see how the mini whip worked. When the replacement came, I checked to make sure everything was ok inside. The connections were fine, but the ground wire lug was loose and just about to disengage from the screw on the outside of the block. It was a simple fix but still annoying. Also, there was an occasional solder smudge inside the case, which could have posed a risk of shorting if I hadn't heard it shaking inside. The antenna amplifies the signal, resulting in increased address noise when tuning into a station. However, it also gets overloaded by a nearby strong AM station, so I had to immediately reconnect to the mains to select a bandpass filter. Maybe it would be good to know this beforehand. All in all a decent antenna for the price if you are willing to work with it a bit out of the box. Unfortunately, this should have been disclosed from the start so that arrangements could be made to use it effectively on day one.
