Review on KEF Q150 Bookshelf Speakers Black by Anthony Boylan

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Nice sounding small speakers for easy turntable installation

I was looking for bookshelf speakers for a modest sound system in my home office. Based on some research and reviews I was about to buy a KEF Q100 when I discovered that it had only recently been replaced by the Q150. I couldn't find much information on the Q150 but I took the plunge and bought a pair. You are now connected to the PS Audio Sprout and the Clearaudio Concept player. I'm by no means a music lover, but I'm very impressed with these speakers. They sound amazingly clear and precise at any volume. I've layered them on many styles of music to date and everything has been so rich and vibrant - I was blown away by how great they sounded when I first used them. I really like the clean, simple look compared to the vintage look of the 100s. I chose black, without magnetic strips. The build quality is solid and heavy. In some cases I hear a very modest hum, but I'm willing to bet it's caused by the way I've positioned them (lower than recommended and on big shelves). I haven't tried putting these speakers on stands to see if anything changes, but honestly it's so minor that I don't feel the need to make any adjustments. If anything, this eliminates the need for a subwoofer. Apologies for the newbie rating but if someone is looking for nice speakers that sound great and are reasonably priced then the Q150 should be on your list.
