hair gets caught on the side not in the cup. It technically works, although not in the way I imagined. It's still decent. I washed my hair and most of the hair ended up on the edges of the colander. A few strands slipped down but still caught so I call it a win. Better than going down the drain. I waited until the next morning to clean it and the hair dried out easily. Edit: I read the instructions afterwards and it seems the product did completely what it was supposed to do. You don't want the hair to get caught in the bowl-shaped part, but rather on the sides to make it easier to catch and clean. Upgrade to 4 stars. I just didn't get a 5 because some hair got caught in the strainer.
