Two devices, too loud, very bad, one star

Pyle PPRE70BT. I purchased this item to replace a more expensive preamp that had failed circuitry. What came was even smaller than expected. Two stars would be too generous; Loud as this preamp is, it's useless for really high-fidelity. Judging by the sound of the noise, it's a power supply filter problem that could probably be solved with sub-dollar parts. It's a shame really because with relatively more inputs including USB and SD slots and a tape loop (a rare thing these days) it could come in handy. When the first device arrived, I quickly checked the frequency on the oscilloscope. and while the output waveform was somewhat rough, the results were encouraging: a two to three dB rise at 20 Hz, a 1 dB fall at 20 kHz, and accurate tracking elsewhere. This was with tone and balance controls in the middle, 1 volt in and master volume set to 1 volt out. Then I connected it to the rest of the devices and found the source of the roughness: hum and noise. And I've spent some time troubleshooting glitches, checking grounds, wires, connectors, etc. It didn't work, so he went back to replace. When the second block arrived I plugged it in - and asked for a refund. It was definitely louder than the first. It would be a mistake to recommend purchasing Pyle equipment because of these preamps.

After a month of use it seems an excellent unit with vast flexibility
