Review on Xroose Wireless Recorder Motorhome CM1 by Kai Steinbach

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good customer support, but not without a few issues.

Overall I'm giving 4 1/2 stars due to the price and the support team who go out of their way to make it work as well as possible. Pros: Good image quality, good screen size, choice of Furion mount adapters, good low-light performance, camera and screen seem to be well made (especially for the price). The cup display mount does not work on sloping windscreens (not a mod - see photo and description below), it would be nice if the parking guide lines were adjustable. Installation wasn't as easy as I had hoped, but not bad. The camera itself comes with a short mount and a long mount. The long one didn't have a drilled center pivot hole, and the distance between the pivot location and the angle adjustment slot was shorter, so I had to drill a hole and make it larger for the adjustment to work. I wanted to use the Furion pre-wiring and support was happy to send me one of two different adapters free of charge (nice touch). The adapter I chose allowed me to tie the extra piece of wire into my eyebrow and I used some silicone to seal it at the top. I think the result looks decent but was a bit more difficult than a direct replacement. For the monitor I was going to use the suction cup mount (included) but the only way to attach it to the display with the supplied hardware is to screw it on the bottom. This might work well for vertical windshields, but won't work when there's an angle. A trip to the hardware store for a 1/4-20 black nut and I was able to attach the suction cup to the included U-bracket (see picture). At first I was worried the suction cup wouldn't hold, but it went 1800 miles with no problems. So the installation required me to make a trip to the hardware store and drill out a bracket. Not a big problem, but more effort than necessary. With the included short antennas (pictured), the unit works with my 22-foot metal camping trailer. .while sitting still or moving very slowly/backward. When driving around town or on the freeway and using the camera as a rear view mirror, the system suffers from choppy video and lag times of 2-3 seconds. There was also a delay on the freeway, as well as numerous video jumps, with the screen going black for a few seconds before signal was restored. When I reported the issue to XRose support, they happily sent over some remote antennas to see if that fixed the issue. The remote antennas are 9 inches tall with a 10 foot cable and magnetic base. Of course, an RV roof isn't usually metal, so I need VHB tape to hold it in place (as well as some wire clips). For testing purposes, I taped the antenna as far forward as possible on the camper (that was about even with my air conditioner in the middle of the caravan). Due to the configuration of my truck, I was only able to use the remote antenna for the camera and not the display (there is no way to route the cable outside of the truck and still make it temporary/removable). When testing this configuration for a short city and highway drive, I found that the antenna improved latency and dropout issues. It's not ideal, but for a wireless system I think this configuration is acceptable. I will try to update this review after the remote antenna is permanently installed on the trailer and I have more experience with the antenna. In general I am satisfied with the result. It was a little more expensive than Furion's plug-and-play solution, but for half the price I got a larger screen with good picture quality and minimal video issues. I also found that XRoose's customer support team does a very good job of keeping the customer happy. It's hard to find these days. If I could recommend a few things for XRose, it would be to fix the long reach camera arm fit issue and provide better standard options for attaching the suction cup to the display (or at least add a 1/4-20 nut). ).
