I bought this camera as my first DSLR and I really like it. I have owned several Canon Powershot cameras in the past and have always been a fan of Canon products. I also have a Canon HV20 camcorder. Although I'm not a professional photographer, I was able to take many great photos without too much effort. Learning the features of the camera is fairly easy, and Canon have designed an interface that makes it easy to switch between camera modes and settings. My friends are often impressed by the photos I take with this camera. The battery life of this camera is great. Normally I could take over 1000 photos before stock runs out. I also bought spare batteries for my longer vacation trips. The standard lens is also well made. I didn't buy an extra lens and I think this is enough. The 18mm wide angle is suitable for both indoor and outdoor photography. The 55mm zoom is great for most use cases, but if you're constantly shooting at long range then you'll probably need a little over 55mm. The camera takes very fast shots in burst mode and is great if you want to take shots while jumping. The design of the camera is very high quality. It feels very valuable and the grip is comfortable. It's easy to hold still and the viewfinder is clear. The picture quality on the LCD is also very good, and the touchscreen capability is a huge plus. Overall I really like this camera. While it's more than point-and-shoot, the image quality is definitely noticeable compared to powershots and smartphones.
