This fall, my four-year-old asked for a pair of nice shoes for the first time. We went to a department store and bought her a pair of pretty black patent leather Mary Janes with a faux buckle fastened with thin Velcro. She loved them - and they literally lasted a day before Velcro died! So I turned to the internet to find a pair of vintage girls' shoes that fastened with an actual buckle. I found them. My daughter just went from a size 11C to a size 12C (with room to grow of course). Not sure what size to order based on the reviews, I ordered a size 11C and 12C Mary Janes and T-strap shoes. Both the 12C sizes she came from and the 11C-T strap seemed to hold her foot worse and her heel slipped when walking. Mary Jane 11C sneakers pair perfectly with socks tucked into the tightest hole and she still has room for her toes to grow. The patent leather is gorgeous and looks gorgeous with all of her dresses. Returning the wrong pair for free was completely painless and probably the best shoe buying experience for a four year old. I would definitely recommend everyone to order two sizes to find the right size for your little girl. These shoes aren't just for church on Sundays! My daughter wears her pretty shoes almost every day (even if she's just walking around the house on a rainy or snowy day). In two months she learned to fasten them herself. On a clear day, she jumps and runs in them without tripping, and happily walks a mile across town and back with them on her feet. This is a great purchase for an active little girl who loves pretty shoes and pretty dresses. I will buy a new pair every time her legs grow back!
