Disappointment with tower fans

We bought this fan to circulate the air in our daughter's room at night and the most appealing feature of this fan was the quiet whisper. The fan itself is quiet, but as it spins back and forth, it makes a crackling noise every time it spins the other way on the right. It's very annoying when you're trying to sleep.
