My 13 year old son and I built this and the assembly went great it took 4-5 hours of communication between father and son over 2 days. This is a truly amazing design and the level of detail is incredible. It looks like most of the issues have been covered in other reviews that were helpful to us, so I'll just cover one. We had the same problem as others: when we finished the watch, it was only running for about 15 seconds. I had a feeling it was something to do with the wax and it turned out I was right. The instructions aren't very clear on the best way to apply it or how much to apply. Other reviewers have talked about candle wax, so we tried dipping cotton swabs into a pool of melted wax from a large lit candle and applying it to the pieces. As a waxing agent it works, but I wasn't sure if it was too much or too little. When we finished building and it only ran 15 seconds I tried rubbing the candle on the part which only made things worse, maybe 5-10 seconds. So here is the solution that solved this problem and used with CAREFUL. I squeezed the pendulum slightly each time to keep the watch pointing in the right direction and kept the escapement moving. I took a lighter with a long nozzle and brought the flame to the waxed ends of the escapement, making about 3 full turns. BINGO! This thinned the wax just right. As soon as I pulled out the lighter, the clock kept ticking. such a nice feeling. The clock now runs for approx. 4 hours each time. By having the flame close to the mechanism, I moved it quickly so it wouldn't stay on one section for too long and possibly ignite or melt yellow. Plastic stops on metal axles. A nice side effect of this is that if you do it enough, you can give the edges a cool charred look. Again, use common sense and don't burn your new watch.
