On a budget and had to buy out of pocket to work for a startup. They proceeded to 0402 (dimensional details) without prototyping. I looked for something I could afford for about a month. Several times I almost bought used scopes for more than they cost new. When the shipping cost increased to about $3, I was concerned that the scope in the photo is true to size. But when I opened this puppy. Wow! This is a real microscope! Fully grown, heavy and strong. Plus it's perfect for what I do. One option to change magnification is to quickly rotate the large round bottom lens holder to select "1X" or "3X". When you turn it, it goes in and out of position very smoothly, locks into its new position very firmly, and has perfect resistance when turning. You just know that the people who designed it and the people who built it were up to the task. I am so impressed and so happy to be able to write a positive review. If you read my reviews on any product, they will all be negative because I am too lazy to write positive reviews. But this microscope is so well made that . I have to write about it. The device is delivered assembled. A second pair of faster aperture lenses is included, but I found the pre-installed smaller aperture lenses to be perfect. As previously mentioned, the lower lens alternates between 1 and 3 magnifications. That turns out to be perfect. Usually you will run it at lower power. It's strong enough to see and solder 0402 size components, but faint enough that you can see a bit of your surroundings to help you navigate the board. To get a closer look at the solder joint, you can rotate this bottom piece to a 3X position. In this case you will not lose the optical position. The thing is very accurate. Very, very good offer. Note that there are two halogen lamps, one above and one below the sample platform. If you use it for electronics like I do, you might want to remove the bottom light. Use a rag, paper or whatever as you shouldn't stain the sebum on these halogen bulbs. Make cold of course. There is a power switch to select bright light, dim light or no light. There's also a lid if you're not using a dim light. It's a good idea to remove the bulb when not in use so you don't overheat the underside if you accidentally turn on the bulb with the metal cover on. They probably designed it to withstand heat, but I'd take it off just in case. Available halogen lamps are generally better than LED lamps. The color is better. As far as I can tell this microscope is excellent. I love it! The people I work with are also very happy with my purchase.
