Let's face it, this isn't a multi-thousand dollar professional FLIR industrial device. Perfect for a weekend warrior in my opinion! Things I've used mine for: Home energy audits (finding missing insulation, finding drafts/leaks, finding hot water pipes or HVAC vents, confirming heat is reaching vents throughout the home, etc. Very helpful. Thank you Even see where you may have thermal bridges from your wall studs. The main reason I bought this unit was to do an energy audit at home and "see" where the insulation or drafts are missing. In Minnesota, this is in the winter of great value Other uses: Engine diagnostics, easily spotting hot or cold areas of your engine and locating the elements that are overheating Circulation/blood flow, how much blood is going to the toe/toes Does the beard provide insulation Locate electronics or diagnose electronics Hidden cameras and other electronic devices often have heat signatures that are easy to spot. Extension cords, computers, etc. overheat. Also great for finding short circuits, overheated batteries or electric motors etc. Find animals at night! Warm-blooded animals glow red on a cold night. Detect hot/cold water lines, leaks, etc. behind walls. Not so expensive either that you feel like you can't borrow or rent it. I also like that it's a separate device. It has its limitations, it's not a professional device, you should understand that when deciding if it's right for you. I think this is a good option for the weekend warrior who might find it useful from time to time. It's a lot of fun and you can actually visualize where you're losing heat or where cold is coming in. Resolution is limited, accuracy is only within 2%, not super fast, takes some getting used to, but for $400 a really good option!
