Bought as a safety valve for water softener drain line. Normally the sewer goes outside, but last winter the outside line froze over and we ended up in a wet, salty basement. We place it on a tee in the main line so that if it becomes clogged again, water will flow into the tub installed in the basement. Otherwise, this valve keeps water in the line.
