I love this thing! My hair is dyed dark brown and I'm turning it gray by stopping the dyeing. Now they are two different colors but when I sprinkle this powder over it it removes the oil and turns my hair a dark gray. It's just wonderful. I don't smell any. For me it doesn't smell at all, which is quite normal. I used to use Batiste Divine Dark but decided to look for a more natural product and here it is. Now if you have straight black hair I don't see how this would work for you since it doesn't make your hair black. If you have black hair, you may need to use very little product and really massage it in. If your hair is gray or salt and pepper, this is what you need.
