I just received the item and I have no comparative experience with digital recorders. However, the features and performance seem average for this type of device. One downside is that fast/slow playback only changes speed by 25%, which isn't fast enough to watch a recording, or slow enough to easily transcribe. You need to download the WMV files to your computer and use other software for that. The manual is the same as for the 5200; the difference is only in the recording time. If you plan to lecture an entire semester on one device, the 5200 bonus might be worth it. If you're dictating short notes to download or transcribe, the 3200 works just as well.
