Review on Dorman 923-202 Center High Mount Third Brake Light for Ford and Mercury Models by Kevin Wilkins

It was a good replacement for the standard neon lens in my 1997.

This was a good replacement for the OEM neon lens in my 1997 Ford Explorer XLT. Installation wasn't bad and works great. Search YouTube for videos before proceeding to uninstall the old one or install the new one. The only problem I had was that the new lens' connector didn't fit through the access holes in the car. So I cut off the connector, fed the wires through, soldered the wires together and wrapped heat shrink wire around the terminals. You can also connect the ends with wire nuts or wrap them with tape. You have to remove a few rivets to get the old bulb out, which isn't a big deal. There are 4 large rivets attaching the panel to the car which come out first. Then there are a few small rivets that attach the old lamp to the body. I received a $7 rivet kit from the shipping port that included 4 size rivets, 2 of which perfectly matched the OEM rivets I had removed. If you have all the tools and a rivet gun, the total removal and installation took about an hour. Be careful when removing the part of the fairing where the original lamp shines. This is a very thin metal that bends/wrinkles easily.
