I love this lamp! - Table lamps

I used my birthday gift certificate to buy this lamp and put it by my bed. It has its own characteristics, and I'll get into that in a moment. However, the good outweighs the bad, not to mention that I think it's great. I'm not usually a decorator and we don't spend a lot of money on home furnishings, but this lamp made me smile every time I walked in the room for a month and it tickles me. I have a thing for frosted glass and old-fashioned lamps - I like their practicality. It's stable, but the base doesn't take up much space. I have a small bedside table and this lamp can't be the only one on it. The narrow, curved neck and round, saucer-sized base make it less likely to fly off the table when I reach for something while half asleep. Then there's the ease of cleaning. Lamps with a lot of gingerbread or with a rough surface like metal or ceramic bases with a million tiny holes or diamonds or whatever are dust collectors. Dog hair will get in and just try to clean it. I learned my lesson the hard way and I won't do it again. Fabric lampshades become fly-stained and dirty over time; Lampshades are so expensive these days that you might as well replace the entire lamp. This lamp, on the other hand, has relatively simple lines that can easily be wiped clean with a duster, and the glass lampshade is much easier to maintain. So that's the practical end. The problem is with the switch. I like the fact that it has a dimmer, but the dimmer is on a cord near the floor. It's a pain in the butt to reach. The cord is too short to hang over the headboard. And something is wrong with the nib, at least the one I have, so probably all of them. The lamp works well when turned on to the equivalent of a 40 watt incandescent bulb or higher, but before bed I like to leave it on at around 25 watts. I dim the lightbulb before bed. Excellent. And about a minute after I let go of the cord, it turns off almost completely, so you can barely see the lamp in the darkened bedroom. I wish it was a little brighter so I don't step on my dog's toy when I wake up at night, but no matter how many times I adjust it, it comes back on. me, although it could be for you. Still very happy with this lamp, too long to be without it long enough to send it back and wait for another one. It's mine and I'm keeping it.
