I use Algon for aquarium maintenance and by the way the fungal spores on the Algon bag start to smell a lot the first time I use it, it's a dirty tank during the week so make sure it is closed Also, the bag will swell with normal use, so make sure nothing is clogging it. In the case of heavily soiled tanks, a fungus film forms around the bag, which can have a disruptive effect. Overall a great product however I have no idea if fungal spores can interact with organisms in the aquarium, I didn't notice any problems directly but it certainly lowers nitrates in the long term.
