Review on SMAKN® Telephone Protector Thunder Arrester by Chris Nastanovich

I purchased this equipment to protect against surges that occur on our telephone line and destroy DSL modem equipment at a rate of once every six months to a year. It was one of the few surge protector options that was said to work with DSL, and it really does. However, this is not transparent to the system. The attenuation caused by this device caused my DSL modem's negotiated speed to drop from 16 Mbps to 14 Mbps without further change. DSL service continued to work, but you probably lost speed. Depending on your situation, this may be a worthy sacrifice, but for me I decided to remove the device. We are a family of five and unfortunately DSL is our only option so every megabit counts. I gave it three stars anyway because if you're just looking for something to protect your phones, it's a well-built device.
