Review on 🎧 Enhance Your Audio Experience with the HiFiBerry DAC+ ADC Pro by Brandon Wong

Requires manual configuration for Raspberry OS, after that it works fine.

For all this to work on RPI 4, some manual changes to the config.txt need to be made, as well as a few downloads and installs. The required changes to the config.txt are documented on the HIFIBERRY website. And I had to download and install the Jumpfrog text editor to make it easy for me to modify config.txt since Raspberry OS is a *nix system but I'm a windows user. Also, I had to download and install Pimixer, vncreal and of course Audacity. . Pimixer so I can setup a line level per ADC input, and vncreal so I can remotely connect to the RPI from my windows machine. The VNCreal server on the RPI side requires you to manually set the screen resolution for the RPI desktop, so a desktop "buffer" is created even if you don't have an HDMI cable connected from the RPI to the monitor. The ADC itself connected perfectly to the GPIO connector, there are no problems with it. I'm digitizing reel-to-reel (and will soon start copying from my phone's IFI preamp) to 24-bit 88.2kHz in Audacity. Works well, cracks sound good. Knowing what I know now, I would buy it again.

Pros
  • Gold plated RCA output connectors
Cons
  • Definitely a bad product
