If you just want to keep the camera right in front of your face, you might like this. Otherwise problems will arise: 1) Low level. This mic will only work when your subject is less than 2-3 feet from the mic. Holding my iPhone 7 at arm's length wasn't good at all (with an SC7 cable; while the iPhone is partly to blame for not having a 3.5mm jack anymore, the Lightning adapter stinks; this mic isn't a solution for the iPhone 7 anyway). Using it with a DSLR is slightly better as you can adjust the levels manually, but you end up with more background noise/noise in the audio. You won't get good audio even if you're far enough away to shoot someone over the waist. As another reviewer pointed out, this isn't a high-end mic and is only meant to improve your camera's built-in mic, specifically the sound right in front of the mic and ignoring ambient noise. That's good, but since you really can't use it further than a few feet away, it's not good enough. 2) Subtle sound. The specs show that the frequency response is only reduced to 100Hz, resulting in a very thin sound. The voices don't sound rich. Smoothing very low frequencies is good practice for voices to keep them from sounding too "boomy", but 100Hz is not a good range. You can fix this while editing, but that's another step. I've had small lava mics that sound better. I'm definitely disappointed. The compact size is great, the mount and windscreen are great, and the build quality is definitely top notch. performance but not.
