Didn't improve anything for me.

Sold in addition to the Canon EOS-M6. Conclusion: do not disturb. No better than the camera's own microphone. If you leave the camera on automatic gain control, the noise becomes totally unacceptable. Turning the gain down manually will give you good audio, yes, but then again it's no better than the camera's own mic and requires extra fiddling. I bought it for recording video tutorials and presentations and for general use. I tested it for this use and also routed it to other audio sources…

Small print and at the very end of the video it is mentioned that you need an "extra" Rode SC7 3.5mm TRS-TRRS connection cable for smartphone recording. The supplied cable is designed for a single lens reflex camera. I completely missed that when ordering, because the video and many photos show the use of a microphone with a smartphone. I deducted a star for that, it's a very good and versatile microphone. There are cheaper versions of the TRS-TRRS cable, but as I later learned the quality…

This mic is good but not perfect

This mic is good but not perfect and how much you like it will depend on your specific reason for buying it. The intended purpose of this mic is to give you an improvement over your camera's built-in mic (whether it's a DSLR or mirrorless or an accessory shoe camcorder) and give you more of a shotgun mic (it's a mini shotgun). in a very compact package. However, this is a $50 mic and sits at the bottom of Rode's line of on-camera mics, so don't expect miracles. First the pros. The microphone is

50mm lens for solo videography

Great little mic for the money. It installs on a Canon 5DII/III/IV camera in about 5 seconds, is powered by the camera, and records good, clear audio directly and off-axis (even clearly picks up the voice behind the camera when interviews are recorded). The windproof sock/muff is a big plus. The shock absorber is a big plus. No protrusion back into the eyeball/forehead when framing shots through the optical viewfinder is a HUGE PLUS. >> Microphones are "audio lenses" - for a one person…

Pros
  • Highly rated by testers for support and durability
Cons
  • Big and chunky

The first microphone I've ever owned under $200. Impressed.

Wow. I have a closet full of pro cinema gear, but I've added a GoPro Silver and an EVO GP-Pro stabilizer to it. This mic has turned this rig into an excellent compact vlogging rig, but it can also double as an interview rig thanks to the amazing sound of this directional mic. It does an excellent job of blocking out ambient noise. To install it on the EVO I used the EVO quick release extension mount. This QR mount holds the VideoMicro Shock Shoe, and the microphone can be easily removed and…

RODE VideoMicro Review

This review site collects many different products My review is about VideoMicro. Budget. Problem solved! The sound is miles better than the popular Vidpro XM-55 or SGC-598, so if you're considering these, do yourself a favor and get them. It's also much easier than using a TASCAM DR-60DmkII or later syncing to my TASCAM DR-40. Just plug it in and enjoy great sound. It is powered by the camera - make sure the microphone is on or the battery will die. This is a big plus. It's small, doesn't get…

low levels Thin sound. Poor iPhone 7 performance.

If you just want to keep the camera right in front of your face, you might like this. Otherwise problems will arise: 1) Low level. This mic will only work when your subject is less than 2-3 feet from the mic. Holding my iPhone 7 at arm's length wasn't good at all (with an SC7 cable; while the iPhone is partly to blame for not having a 3.5mm jack anymore, the Lightning adapter stinks; this mic isn't a solution for the iPhone 7 anyway). Using it with a DSLR is slightly better as you can adjust…
