Review on πŸŽ₯ Enhance Your Video Quality with the Rode VideoMicro On-Camera Microphone and Rycote Lyre Shock Mount by Josh Clifton

Revainrating 5 out of 5

50mm lens for solo videography

Great little mic for the money. It installs on a Canon 5DII/III/IV camera in about 5 seconds, is powered by the camera, and records good, clear audio directly and off-axis (even clearly picks up the voice behind the camera when interviews are recorded). The windproof sock/muff is a big plus. The shock absorber is a big plus. No protrusion back into the eyeball/forehead when framing shots through the optical viewfinder is a HUGE PLUS. >> Microphones are "audio lenses" - for a one person job (not a sound engineer) you need to have one of these (the equivalent of a great cheap 50mm lens), plus a good cam mount shotgun (telephoto lens) and a good binaural camera microphone mount (equivalent to an ultra wide angle lens). Each should be as easy to grip/mount/change as an optical lens. Compliance with scene/frame requirements.

Pros
  • Highly rated by testers for support and durability
Cons
  • Big and chunky

First mic under $200 I've ever owned. Impressed.
