Update: When the replacement arrived everything worked as advertised. Now it always stays connected and wakes up or pauses on my Surface Pro 6 even when docked. By plugging it into the Surface Pro Dock, I can manage my USB connections with memory card readers and two additional USB 3 ports on the front. The separate power supply also means I can charge things through these ports even when the computer is off. I fly a few drones as a hobby. Both features are important to me, and the fact that it only requires a single USB connection on my dock is another great feature. Nothing is perfect and I'm glad the first unit was just a lemon and the replacement was a peach. I had to return it. The connection was unstable and I had to turn the device off and on again to reconnect. Nice design but this kid has a lemon.
