I've had this for a few weeks now and it holds my laptops securely including an older, thicker laptop. The stand has a nice rubber material that the laptop sits on to prevent scratches and sliding. The stand is metal and heavy; Removing the laptop will not easily move the stand if it is the right size. Very nice resizing design that allows you to support a variety of laptops. I found it easiest to place the laptop on a stand and size it to lightly touch the laptop when the stand is upside down on the laptop to allow access for tightening the screws. This allowed the size to be adjusted to just the right width to hold it in place with no slack, but not so much that it had to be pushed to secure the laptop.
